Allahabad has always been a centre of education, politics and religion since remote past. This holy city is situated on the bank of the white watered Ganga, blue watered Yamuna and invisible Saraswati. Some awared broad minded and education promoting people of this holy city started this school in 1889 in the Colonelganj locality in a rented building. Soon it emerged as a Junior High School. In 1932, it became a Higher Secondary School and in 1950, it bloomed in the shape of an Intermediate College.

     In 1951, this college was established in its own building in Tagore Town, in the vicinity of Bhardwaj Ashram and Anand Bhawan. As the college started in Colonelganj locality, it was named Colonelganj Intermediate College. In its present shape the college symbolizes the simplicity, imagination and wisdom of Sage Bhardwaj and Gurudev Ravindra Nath Tagore.

     From the very beginning, this college has contributed in the all round development of not only the students of the city but also  the students of the rural areas and other districts.

     Keeping in view the increasing number of students, the Managing Committee had to seek the permission of the government for opening a self finance wing from class VI to XII which was awarded in the phases.

     The alumnus of the college, Lt. Gen. Shantanu Choudhary (the then Vice Chief of the Army Staff), donated a Vijayant Tank to the college in 2004.

     Shri N. K. Mishra, the regional manager of the S.B.I. donated some ceiling fans and water purifiers to the college. Lokhit Trust also donated a water cooler to the college. The college thanks  Mr. N. K. Mishra, Lokhit Trust and Lt. Gen. Shantanu Choudhary from the core of the heart.
